R/V Mt. Mitchell Departs Seattle en Route for the Oregon Coast
April 2, 2010
The Mt. Mitchell departed Fishermen’s Terminal located in Seattle, WA on April 1, 2010, en route for the Oregon Coast. On board are scientists, observers, and representatives from L3 MariPro and Williamson & Associates. During the cruise, the team will utilize the permanently installed Kongsberg EM 120 Multibeam Echo Sounder and EM Full Performance 710 to create seafloor maps of multiple areas of interest for the Regional Scale Nodes program which is a subset of the National Science Foundation Ocean Observatories Initiative. Scientists will use the data and findings to study new technologies that will enable remote, real-time, and long-term interactive presence in the ocean.
